Organizational & Operational Test

A 501(c)(3) charity will be recognized only when organized for exempt purposes (charitable, educational, religious, or scientific as per the definitions of the IRS) and must continue pursuing such purposes after formation.  It may engage in minor unrelated business to raise additional capital, but it must not become too significant in ratio to its other activities (it will also be taxed on that business).
